A Disaster, Romanitcal Dinner and Mode Merr

Good Afternoon Dear Readers,

Shark Vertebrae Waking Stick
I have been itching to write about the gift I got the Piratical Fiance for our anniversary since I bought it at the antique show last month. Since I gave it to him yesterday, I am free to write about it. I bought him a Shark Vertebrae Walking Stick. This particular one is dated from the 1870's to 1880's. These were made by sailors on voyages. The length is of course, made of shark vertebrae and the tip and certain disks in the length are made of horn. The Piratical Fiance loved it. We plan on using our Victorian accessories together (yes, we are that couple). I will soon be the proud owner of yet another Victorian Mourning Parasol. Pictures to follow when it arrives!

The happy couple. Can you see the purple?
As you can see from the above title, there was a bit of a disaster yesterday. I went to the salon for a hair cut, but could not stay to have my hair colored due to time constraints. I decided that the best option would be to just do an at home dye job, with the help of the Piratical Fiance (who has had lots of experience dying his hair all sorts of interesting colors). I now, once again have glossy blue-black hair, with almost all of the grays gone, but my beautiful flaming red hair has now turned purple. Sigh. I am not sure what happened. I don't mind having purple hair. (I had it about 8 years ago.) But I really did like the red. What makes it all a bit worse, is that yesterday was the Piratical Fiance's and my 3 year anniversary. Big milestone. Add to that that we are leaving in 4 days for vacation, and the red turned purple hair is a bit more distressing. However, I made the best of it last night. Perhaps it will be easier for my parents now that the purple blends in with the red and doesn't stand out as much as the red. I can always keep shampooing and see how long it will take to fade...
What color would you call that skirt?

But I digress...Yesterday there was an anniversary dinner to go to! The most important part of going out to dinner, aside from being hungry, is getting dressed. What do you all think I wore? Well, Sillies, I wore Mode Merr, of course! Angela had given me a Leopard Bridgette Blouse. I chose to wear my latest Mode Merr piece to dinner last night. I paired it with a bright blue (I am not sure exactly what to call this color) Perfect Skirt. As you surely know now, from previous blogs, I only own Peasant Blouses. The Bridgette Blouse is long sleeved and was a pleasant alternative to being chilly due to wearing Peasant Blouses in Winter.

Waiting for food!
The Bridgette Blouse has fitted sleeves from the elbow and below. From the elbow up they have a slightly wider cut. (It almost reminds me of a bats wing, which is a good thing, because I really like bats! But it is not like those tops you see in retail stores lately that have exaggerated sleeves that go from wrist to waist.) The is also some gathering at the shoulders, which at first I thought wouldn't look right on me, as I have broad shoulders, but it was actually perfect! Extra detail without the extra bulk. There is a gathered portion below the bust that is very flattering and helps in the cleavage department (as does the V neckline). Best of all, the Piratical Fiance went bananas when he saw me in it. (He generally doesn't react like that when I am fully clothed.) This shirt does have stretch, which was very helpful when eating a big dinner! The Bridgette Blouse comes in Black and Leopard. And guess what? It is on sale right now! Go to www.modemerr.com and get yourself one. It would be a great addition to your wardrobe and would go with just about anything!

Pork pate, pickled carrots, house made mustard, etc
We had very late dinner reservations at a tiny little place in Jamaica Plain called Ten Tables. Ever been there? If you have not, do yourself a favor and go! (www.tentables.net) It is small, cozy, and romantical. The food is absolutely amazing. We had bratwurst and a sample plate for appetizers. I had pasta with rabbit and Brussels Sprouts for dinner, chocolate terrine with Thai Basil ice cream for dessert and Cappuccino! Everything was cooked perfectly. The pasta was home made as was the ice cream. The majority of the food was from local farmers. It was all so fresh and amazing. It was a lovely way to celebrate our special day!

Eating Bratwurst!

Pasta with bunny
Dessert with anniversary candle
Capps!

Cheese plate
I am leaving for a much needed vacation in a few days. When I come back there likely be a lengthy entry about my trip. Also, stay tuned for Halter Tops as well as dates for up-coming Mode Merr shows!

   Until next time <3

Mode Merr Pop Up Boutique in Glamorous Roslindale Square

A Very Beautiful and Bright Sunday Afternoon, To You, Dear Readers,

Where I wish I was this afternoon
I would like to report to you that I am sitting down to write this blog entry at a street side cafe, sipping a coffee and eating some fabulous pastry. As I type, I watch couples stroll by on this perfect Sunday afternoon. I am of course outfitted in a new Mode Merr outfit, with perfect hair and perfect make-up and perfect heels. I serenely sip my coffee and delicately nibble my pastry. I am inspired by what I see around me and life is wonderful.

How I looked LAST night
I would like to report this to you. Really I would. But the reality is that I have a head cold and I am sitting on the couch in my living room. I have a glass of orange juice next to me and I can barely breathe. My hair is a mess and I am wearing cozy Halloween jammies. There is nothing glamorous going on here. However, that was not the case last night.

Bargain Bins
Last night I hosted my first ever Mode Merr Pop Up Boutique. I have been giddily looking forward to hosting this event for months. I have always enjoyed hostessing and you all know how much I love Mode Merr. It just seemed to make sense to put the two together.

Green Leopard, that was not worn Friday night
Angela called me Friday afternoon and wanted to know if she could swing by so we could set up the Boutique that night so I could have all of Saturday to ready the house. We decided to go to dinner (which I desperately needed, as I had had a rather difficult week). Luckily we had a quick phone consult to decide on outfits. If we hadn't, I would have greeted Angela in black skinny jeans and a black and green leopard cardigan...exactly the outfit she was wearing. Phew...fashion faux paux avoided. We quickly unloaded the car and configured where we should place the clothing rack and the bargain bins for optimal shopping. We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Rattlesnake, where the Piratical Fiance is the Sous Chef. It was great to have an adult beverage and talk and laugh and find parking spots in Downtown Boston a stone's throw from the restaurant.

The amazing Johnny Depp as Ed Wood
Saturday evening came. For awhile it was just Angela and I. It felt like we were unpopular girls at school and no one had come to our party. We were looking gorgeous and sitting around watching Ed Wood. We figured if no one showed, we were still having a great time. Slowly but surely, the ladies started showing up and the shopping and Mimosa drinking began.

The lovely Anna, digging
Everyone chatted and dug around in the bins. My dining room chairs slowly became shopping baskets for the clothes that were to be tried on. The gals went into the bathroom one-by-one to try on their selections. Outfits that were possibilities were modeled for the rest of us to see and offer opinions on. I myself, felt like a salesgirl at the Gap. I found myself repeating, "If you need a different size, just let me know!"

Too cute Haley, modeling
It was great to see women of different ages and body types ALL find something that they liked and that fit them. (I feel like this is such a common theme in my blogs!) It was so much fun to see how great everyone looked in their new clothes. A common question was, "What would I wear this with?" The answers ranged from skinny jeans to sundresses and tube dresses. All very helpful suggestions.

More Bargain Bins
We ended the evening sitting around my living room each eating a slice of scrumptious fruit tart. Not only was the evening a great success, but it was so much fun to visit with everyone as well as help them shop. Angela and I will definitely be doing this at my house again.

I want to thank all the ladies that came out last night and made the evening such a great success. We appreciated it so much.

Until next time... <3

A Good Evening to You Dear Readers,

Uncle Jack...good stuff!
This is our 21st blog, which means we are now legal to drink! But seriously, I want to remind you that this Saturday, February 18th, Angela and I will be hosting a fabulous Mode Merr Pop Up Boutique. It is not too late to get on the guest list! Just let me know if you would like to come and I will make it happen. This event will be from 4pm-10pm. There will be bargain bins as well as regularly priced items in sizes xxs-xxxl. This is a ladies only and grown ups only event, so leave your fella at home and get a sitter for the kids and come shop with some great ladies at my place. It promises to be a great evening.

Some exciting news about fabric. (I never thought I would type a sentence about fabric being exciting, but Goddammit, it IS!) Mode Merr has just received fabric samples. This Spring's Perfect Skirts will be Light Gray, English Moss Green, Deep Turquoise and Bright Purple. You have no idea how long I have been waiting for a purple Perfect Skirt. I will take one in light gray as well, thank you very much.

Wholesale!
Angela also wanted me to put the word out that Mode Merr is going to launch a PDF wholesale catalog. This is for people with businesses only (sorry). If you are a shop/boutique owner interested in seeing this or know someone who has a shop/boutique who would be interested in seeing this, please email Mode Merr at wholesale@modemerr.com

Angela and I painting the town Black
The funnest thing I have to report to you all is that Angela and I went went out 2 weeks ago. We went out to a club like grown-ups. We socialized and had cocktails and stayed out WAY past our (or at least my) bedtimes. We had an absolute blast. Which is something I desperately needed. When the only person you have to talk to all day long is 7 months old, you need grown-up nights.
I hope you are all full from your dinners and are now relaxing and enjoying the rest of your evening. <3
   Until next time...
